VIRGINIA (GINGER) SOLES WEBB January 17, 1946 March 20, 2020, suddenly passed away at home as the beloved wife and soulmate of Darwin Webb. She is survived by loving children, Tammy and Thomas Monito, Carmen Webb, Riley and Mindy Webb, treasured sister, Ruth B. Soles and Bob Dziabiak, sister, Roberta Soles, and her greatest pride and joy, grandchildren, Ben and Abby Monito, Justin and Kathleen Monito, and Lindsey Monito. Preceded in death by mother, Ruth N. WILLIAM B. CRYTSER William B. Crytser, Sr., 90, of Coraopolis since 1969, passed peacefully surrounded by family at his side, on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at West Hills Health and Rehab Center. He was born on Pittsburgh's South Side on January 15, 1930, to the late James and Anna (Evanko) Crytser. He had 22 years serving in the U.S. Army during both the Korean and Vietnam Eras in the Explosive Ordinance Disposal. On September 17, 2005, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife for 48 years, Jean E. (Caler) Crytser. They had six cherished children Linda, Donna, Diana, Mark, Michael and William B. Crytser, Jr.; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; one surviving sister, Maggie Brown. In addition to his parents, James and Anna, and his wife, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Alice, Rita, Dolly, James, Sr. and Anna Marie. William was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Coraopolis. Visitation will be private at Copeland's Coraopolis. When the coronavirus dissipates, a celebration of Bill's life will be announced later. WILLIAM (BILL) JOHN "JESSE" KRAINAK On Friday, March 20, 2020, William (Bill) John Krainak "Jesse", age 94, of Venetia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Ida (nee Caputo), his children, William, Karen Tomczyk (Tom), Donna Bobak (Paul), Deborahann Sachini (Clifford) and Janet, along with eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, as well as longtime, close family friends, Deborah Kaminiski and Dennis Schulte. He is survived by his brother, Charles Krainak, preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Mary (nee Kosmach) Krainak, his siblings, Joseph, Edward, Helen Sekinger, Agnes Donnelly and Richard. Bill was born on May 12, 1925, in Pittsburgh. He served in the United States Navy during WWII as a Yeoman 2nd class. Following his discharge from the Navy, Bill met the love of his life, Ida Caputo. They married in 1948 and created a beautiful, loving family together. Soon after, Bill obtained his Mortuary Science degree while working for Eastman Kodak. He had an eclectic career which included pharmaceutical sales and managing the Camera and Card Shop. During his time managing the card shop, he met Ray Phillips and together they founded the funeral home partnership, Phillips and Krainak, where he gently cared for the deceased and their families. After ending his careers as a funeral director and camera and card shop manager, Bill eased into retirement with Mercer. He was an outgoing, charismatic man who could easily make a friend from a stranger in a matter of seconds. He had an uncanny memory for family history (both his own and Ida's) and often his grandchildren would press him for details to complete our family story. Throughout Bill's life, he was a faithful Catholic who participated in church choirs, served as an usher, taught religious education, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 491, reaching the highest rank of Grand Knight. He loved to garden, play the piano, and watch the Pirates and Steelers. Bill was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. EDWARD A. GRUPP Age 98, of Mt. Lebanon. Beloved husband of the late Anita (Perlmutter) Grupp for 63 years, passed away on March 20, 2020. Ed was the son of Louis and Ceil Grupp; and brother of the late Muriel Samuels. He leaves behind his daughters, Marcy (of Pittsburgh), Lori (of Wilmette, IL); and his son, Jerold (Francine) (of Philadelphia). He also leaves two grandsons, Nathaniel and Jacob Grupp (and girlfriend Rachel Cichowicz); and his nephew, Steven Adell (of New Jersey). A child of the Depression, born in 1921 into a family of musicians, Ed always carried a little piece of his Brooklyn origins in his heart and in his voice. Ed was a proud graduate of James Madison High School. As part of the Greatest Generation he enlisted in the Army Air Corps and served in WWII. After being Honorably Discharged as a Sergeant, Ed earned his law degree from St. John's University in Brooklyn. Ed joined the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in Cleveland where he met his bride, Anita. Ed and Anita and their three children moved to Mt. Lebanon in 1958 where they built and settled into the home where he would live for more than 60 years. Ed retired as the Regional Attorney for the NLRB in 1986. Ed and Anita were passionate travelers, seeing most of the major cities of the world. Together they visited every continent (but Antarctica). They also enjoyed trips to Las Vegas and Aruba where Ed excelled at the craps table. In recent years, you could frequently find him shooting dice at the Rivers Casino. And winning. Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Anita and Ed were a wonderfully matched couple who not only dearly loved each other, but were the best of friends, sharing a love of learning, reading, meeting people and good conversation. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Ed's neighbors, the O'Connors and the Daniels. These wonderful friends, partnering with Ed's daughter Marcy, provided care and attention which allowed Ed to live in his home with dignity and independence until only his final few weeks. MATILDA "TILLY" FLANNERY Age 90, of Hampton, died Thursday, March 19. After winning her incredibly inspirational 38-year battle with cancer, Tilly passed away peacefully at home on her terms with her loving family by her side. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Rob and Sheila Yencik of Ross Twp.; her granddaughter, Jackie Yencik of New York City; her grandson, Jake Yencik of Pittsburgh; and her devoted companion for the past decade, Donald Truver of McCandless. Tilly also is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, who relied on her for advice, support and her typically candid opinion on any issue or question that they might address with her. She was preceded in death by her father, Angelo Lustri; mother, Ernestine Lustri Curti; step-father, James Curti; sister, Adeline Brown; and brothers, Armand James Lustri and James Curti Jr.; as well as her loving husband, William Flannery. Born in Oakmont in 1929, Tilly was steeled by the hardships of the Great Depression, and her unbridled patriotism was forged during the uncertain days of World War II. After graduating from Oakmont High School, Tilly attended the University of Detroit before returning to the Pittsburgh area, where she was married and raised her son. A working woman long before it was common, Tilly held a variety of professional positions before entering a career in real estate sales in the 1970s. At about the same time, she met her soulmate, Bill Flannery, and they embarked on an adventure that took them to Murfreesboro, TN, and Ogden, Utah, before returning to Pittsburgh for retirement. In her later years, among her many interests, Tilly especially enjoyed playing bridge, spending time with her sister, dining out with her companion, Don, and doting over her grandchildren. Her passing will leave a huge hole in the hearts, and a void in the lives, of her extremely appreciative family. Tilly also will be sorely missed by her countless close friends, especially those from the bridge groups and other clubs that she enjoyed so much. A memorial service will be held at a later date. He was the love of Letta (Martin) Scanlon for nearly 47 years and the solid rock for his children; Heather Scanlon, Erin (Matt) Miller, Brian (Lisa) Scanlon and Jennifer (Kevin) Roach. He was the Grandman to: Nate, Kelcie, Hope Herrmann, Connor, Gabe, Noelle, Jude, Christian Miller, Brandon, Anna Scanlon, Kaletta, James and Noah Roach. He was the son of his late parents, Marty and Catherine Scanlon. Survived by siblings and many beloved cousins. He was the wonderful brother-in-law to Rebecca (Ed) Chess and the late Ed (Lynne) Martin. A Carey kid at Saints Simon & Jude and a 1970 graduate of Chartiers Valley High School, Tim was a self-made, successful business owner. He was a kind, considerate man with a great faith in God. He did volunteer service throughout his life, including coaching, Mentor of the Amputee Coalition, and a member of the Steeler Advisory Council. He loved his family, friends, traveling with his wife, his Irish heritage, the Steelers, Pirates, gardening with his grandkids and watching them play sports. RITA L. SCANIO Rita passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her beloved friends and family on Thursday, March 19th. She was born July 24, 1922 in Pittsburgh. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, James V. Scanio and Lena Cena Scanio; and her dear cousin, Thomas J. Scanio. She worked at Medusa Corporation, Robroy Industries and Churchill Valley Country Club, where she was a favorite of members until she retired at age 90. She is survived by cousins, Rita M. Scanio (Verona, PA), Rosaria Capezzuto (Murrysville, PA), Marlene LaPlante (St. Petersburg, FL), Vincent Cafaro (Bayonet Point, FL) and Lawrence LoVuola (Winter Park, FL), and their loving families; as well as cherished family in Sicily, Italy. Rita was an animal lover, enjoyed jazz music, food-restaurants and traveling to visit friends and family. A charismatic person, she made friends wherever she went. Her kindness, independence, sense of humor and words of wisdom will be forever missed. She is forever grateful to her friends, family and dear friend (and nurse) Merlyn Slater who all devoted their time and energy to care during her time of need. A special note of thankfulness to all of the amazing, inspirational staff at Heritage Hospice. Due to the restrictions in place, Rita's viewing and funeral mass will be private to her family.
