WRIGHT JEAN KETTERING Born July 20, 1938. Just as she lived her life, Jean Kettering Wright fought her battle with cancer with grace, a positive attitude, and a smile on her face. Jean died on April 8, 2017. She was predeceased by her parents, Kathryn Parker Kettering and Howard Vaughn Kettering, and her husband of almost 50 years, L. Alan Wright. She leaves behind her sister, Janet Parker Kettering; sister-in-law, Janet Wright Leonard (Al Gibbs); nephew, Paul Leonard; children, Beth (Elliot) Davis, and Bruce (Sheila) Wright; grandchildren, Lauren (Donnie), Austin (Joey), Wes (Ola), Alan (Sarah), Brett, and Meghan; step- grandchildren, Taylor and Nathan; her great- grandchildren, Kalli, Thomas, Liam; and a circle of close friends. Jean graduated from Wilkinsburg High School and Grove City College, and worked at Alcoa until she and Alan decided to begin their family. Thereafter, she devoted her life to her family. Jean was nurturing and supportive, she was energetic, she was a planner and an organizer, she was a grammar expert, and she was a great cook. We will remember her M&M cookies, trips to Loon Lake, and family dinners at her house. Jean was an active member of the South Hills Chorale; her 50 years of service to the Chorale was honored at their recent Winter Concert. The South Hills Chorale utilized Jean's organizational and leadership skills as she was their Business Manager for many years. Jean enjoyed traveling, especially her trips to Santa Fe each summer with Al, and more recently to Peru, and elsewhere, with her companion of two years, Bruce Cooper. Jean's self-proclaimed addiction for turquoise astounding. She was an expert photographer, particularly of her garden flowers. Jean said, when she decided to forego any further treatment for her terminal illness, "One day at a time." These words will be etched forever on her tombstone in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies; just as Alan's tombstone says, "Every day is a good day." This was how Jean and Alan lived their lives. These two phrases belong together, they complement each other; together, they are more powerful than either one alone. Similarly, Jean and Alan were meant to be together -- now they will be. Family and friends will be welcomed at LAUGHLIN MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 222 Washington Road, Mt. Lebanon on Wednesday 4-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel, Thursday 12:30 p.m. Interment to follow in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Memorial donations may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 501 Martindale St., Ste. 670, Pgh., PA 15212. laughlinfuneralhome.com Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb

LYON RICHARD B. III “R.B.” Age 27, of Cecil Twp., on Thurs., April 6, 2017. Beloved son of Maribeth (Bartelme) Lyon and Richard B. Lyon, Jr.; brother of Kaylin Anne Lyon; grandson of Geraldine Bartelme, Richard B. Lyon, Sr. and the late Frank Bartelme and Catherine B. Lyon; also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Family and friends welcome Tues. 4-8 p.m. at FREYVOGEL - SLATER FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 112 Fort Couch Rd., Bethel Park (opposite Macy's South Hills). Mass of Christian Burial in St. Thomas More Church Wed. 10 a.m. Goodbye my beautiful son. We will love you to the moon to every star all around the universe and back for all time. Sadly, R.B.'s extraordinary and poetic journey through life included experimenting with drugs to self-medicate the pain and suffering of his mind. ADDICTION DID NOT DEFINE R.B. He was a brilliant, gifted, kind, generous, witty, loving son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend to all. He fought the insidious disease of addiction for the last seven years. He watched it take so many beautiful souls every day. He was known for his big heart, always being there for others that were suffering. He was raised to always lend a hand and in the end it was his kind and selfless heart in trying to save another that pulled him back in. He loved his family, friends and his beloved pets. He loved the arts, was an artist in the kitchen, an avid reader and gifted writer. He thrived with both music composition and while playing his acoustic and electric guitars. Music was his saving grace as were the mountains and the oceans. Thankfully, he was able to be on the mountain this last winter and had the time of his life challenging his mind and body being one with nature. Heroin always took that all away from him demanding his every motion and thought be in devout worship of it and all the evil that surrounds it. The disease of addiction is the enemy and the ONLY way we're going to fight this is together. R.B. did not lose his battle with the devil addiction, I think God took him while he was yet young to become a powerful and merciful angel to all those still suffering. Please, if you are suffering, know there is help, just reach out your hand and someone will take it and help lead you back to you. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be sent to: Sages's Army, Inc., P.O. Box 156 Westmorland City, PA 15692. Send condolences post-gazette.com/gb
